Anna Guevarra Receives Faculty Community Engagement Award
Anna Guevarra, program director of Global Asian Studies, receives the campus-wide Faculty Community Engagement Award. She is the very FIRST faculty member to receive this distinction at UIC.
The award recognizes Anna for her extraordinary contributions and initiatives in community engagement work, which has transformed UIC and the communities we serve, and which of course is a core commitment of GLAS. She will be honored at the annual Faculty Awards Ceremony and Reception to be held in the fall.
Congratulations Anna on this most-deserved award!
Dr. Guevarra is the founding director of the Global Asian Studies Program and a co-PI of the UIC AANAPISI Initiative. She is also the co-PI of the Social Justice and Human Rights Cluster and a member of the Diaspora Cluster at UIC. Professor Guevarra's scholarly, creative, and teaching interests focus on immigrant and transnational labor, the geopolitics of carework, critical diaspora studies, and community engagement as they relate to dynamics of race, gender, and empire.
