ICE Ruling: Support UIC International Students
Posting this message on behalf of an independent collective of UIC undergraduate and graduate international students.
Dear Students, Friends, and Faculty,
We are writing this email to you regarding the recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) guidance concerning the status of international students in our university. We are members of an independent collective of undergraduate and graduate international students who drafted a statement, linked below, expressing our concerns and demands. We hope to collect signatures from all UIC students, employees, and groups on campus from Friday, July 10th to Monday, July 13th, before presenting it to UIC administration on Tuesday, July 14th.
The demands are both sweeping in their attempt to represent the diverse circumstances international students face, detailed in the quest to offer actionable steps, and forceful in their condemnation of the guidance and historic dearth of support for international students. Many legal battles are being waged over this guidance, but while the duration and outcome of such challenges remain uncertain we require the university to safeguard all international students.
We are reaching out to you in hope that you will support this statement and call on UIC to take every measure in supporting international students during this unprecedented crisis. You can sign the statement expressing your support as an international student or an ally, as an individual as well as an organization.
