To Our Students—
The core faculty of the Global Asian Studies Program at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and those among our UIC community who are directly and indirectly affected by the violence. We uplift and uphold your right to grieve, your right to speak out against the brutalities committed against civilians, and your right to condemn the U.S. government’s unwavering support for the Israeli settler colonial state.
We are committed to making our classrooms a safe space to talk about this ongoing tragedy in its historical, social, and contemporary political contexts. As educators of Global Asian Studies, we uplift and uphold the legacy of solidarity between Asian/Asian American communities and Arab/Arab American communities; and reaffirm our commitment to pedagogies that emphasize decolonizing, intersectional, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist frameworks, which we outlined here: https://bit.ly/UICGLASsolidaritywithPalestine.
