Xuehua Xiang, GLAS Affiliated Faculty, Receives LAS Faculty Service Award

Dr. Xuehua Xiang is one of the latest recipients of  the LAS Faculty Service Award. This award honors faculty members for their exceptional contributions to LAS via direct involvement with College committees and initiatives and through service to their departments, professions, and the community that further the mission of the College.

Xuehua has been an extraordinary force on campus helping grow the Linguistics program to where it is now in addition to the foreign languages (Chinese, Korean, and Japanese especially). She has also been a dedicated colleague and supporter of GLAS (including Asian American Studies and Asian Studies) for many years.

GLAS is grateful for Xuehua for all her support all these years and for always being ready and enthusiastic to lend a hand  – whether it is to conduct peer teaching reviews, provide feedback on programmatic proposals, participate in all our outreach gimmicks including serving as a judge for the knowledge bowl, and most especially, cheer us on especially when needed most.

Xuehua Xiang is Associate Professor of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, and an Affiliated Faculty with Global Asian Studies. Her research interests include intercultural pragmatics, discourse analysis, Chinese linguistics, and second language teaching and curriculum development. Her research, while diverse in focus, centralizes on her conviction of the importance of naturalistic data for linguistic theorizing and viewing language as a meaning-making system situated in multimodal systems and in evolving social environments.
